Together We Grow – Ka Tupu Kotāhi ai Tātou- Week 3, Term 3

Kia ora e te whānau,

What a wild ride the past two weeks have been — literally! We’ve weathered storms, braved potential flooding, and even received  tsunami warnings from Russia just to keep things interesting! Gumboots have become standard uniform, and more than a few lunchboxes have floated away in the excitement! Through it all, our tamariki have shown resilience, humour, and a serious sense of adventure.

We want to give a huge thank you to all our whānau who attended the Parent/Teacher interviews. Your support and engagement mean so much to us. We also deeply appreciate your understanding as we had to reschedule some interview times due to the sudden (and soggy) turn in the weather. Health and safety always comes first — even when it means dodging puddles the size of swimming pools!

As the wonderful Louise Hay once said:
“There’s no such thing as good weather, or bad weather. There’s just weather and your attitude towards it.”
Well, if that’s true, ŌVS has just proven it’s got the best attitude in town — rain jackets, smiles, and all.

Stay dry (if you can), and thank you again for being such an amazing, adaptable, and supportive community.

Ngā mihi mahana,
Rick Sayer
Principal

BOT SPOT  (Board of Trustees)
Policy Development.
Hot off the press! School Docs goes live next week at OVS.
The BOT would like to introduce School Docs. School Docs are an online policy portal where all the Boards school policies are stored and made accessible to everyone in our school community. To facilitate this there will be an online login for whanau on our website. This means whanau can access any policy they would like to view simply by logging in. We will be advertising the login and community password next week when the site goes live.
BOT Elections
Whanau should have received comms from ‘SCHOOLED‘ about the upcoming BOT elections and the call for nominations. To ensure complete transparency  our Board has engaged a  third party company and the school has no part in this process.

Parent/Teacher Interviews – reschedule
A reminder that we are now  hosting the postponed  Parent/Teacher interviews on Tuesday next week. There will be no early closing and interviews will start at 3.15 and go through to 6pm. We have rescheduled parents that had booked for last Tuesday again in the same time slots ‘except for the 2-3pm interviews’. If you booked in the 2-3pm slot we will book you an interview as close as possible to the original booking. The fabulous Jen will be in touch with your new booking time. Bookings are also still open so you have the option to change your booking to a time that suits better. We look forward to seeing you all there. If for some reason you are unable to make next week, feel free to contact the class teacher to make an alternate time.

Dates:

  • Tuesday 5th August 3:15pm to 6:00pm

Booking

Either book online https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code  Enter the code: nw27z

A bit of a twist on an old fairy tale from Johnny.
Johnny baked 20,000 gingerbread men for afternoon tea. They all ran off, with Johnny chasing behind. “Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch us we are the gingerbread men” they said. Obviously, Johnny was much faster than his baking, he was not slow like the old granny in the original story. He caught the 20,000 men and locked them up in his oven.

Spare clothes
With the amount of rain we’ve been having lately there’s quite a bit of mud around, which can be very appealing for some students!  However we’ve noticed some students don’t have a change of clothes when they do get wet and muddy.  Please ensure your child has at least one set of spare clothes in their school bag.
Bus Parking
Our driver is reporting a few issues lately. Please continue to keep this area clear. We appreciate the building  works have created congestion, but appreciate your diligence here.

Property Developments

New junior toilets and deck construction.  Yay…we are out of the ground! The toilet framing is going up, the ramp is being poured soon and things are certainly starting to take shape!
