Term 2 – Week 10 – high importance

8th July

Kia ora koutou

We have survived another term with less disruption to our programmes and class than most of the school principal’s I have talked with lately.  This has been a massive positive for our school and learning.  We have at this stage not had class teachers down with Covid (like many other schools with high percentages), but we have had a few with the flu.  I am very aware that our turn may come with highly disruptive class staffing issues and struggles with juggling children being supervised at school.

The children have been extremely tired as a general pattern within classes over the last few weeks.  So rest up, enjoy your children and we look forward to seeing everyone back safely next term.

A big shout out to the staff of Otaika Valley School for this terms ‘great work and efforts’.  Enjoy your break.

BOARD OF TRUSTEE – elections

School Board of Trustee Elections are looming.

The Otaika Valley School Board of Trustees and Returning officer, Kevin McCartain, wish to inform our community about the up-and-coming elections.  A school requires parents to be involved in governing the school.  This is an essential part of the success of this school for your children.  A mixture of previous experience on our board and new members for succession planning provides stability to the board with governance and to the principal who manages the day to day running of the school.

In particular new parents of Otaika Valley School are encouraged to consider this great opportunity to get involved.

There is a time commitment involved in being a Board of Trustee member and nominees need to understand that. This includes committing to attendance at Board meetings, which is one of the key aspects of the role.

The principal is available for discussions if you want to ask questions about the role of a Board member.

We are seeking to appoint 5 Parent representatives to the school board.   Nominations close on the 3rd of August 2022 which is the Wednesday of week 2, Term 3.  Email Terry at principal@otaika.school.nz if you want a phone discussion during the school holidays.

The returning officer will be sending out voting forms and information to parent/caregiver emails very soon.

EARLY CLOSE OF SCHOOL – 3rd August

School is closing at 12:05 on Wednesday 3rd of August to run parent/teacher interviews.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE – not available

With school’s early closure for Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews, After School Care will not be available on Wednesday 3rd of August.  Please ensure you find alternative child care for this day.   Apologies for any inconvenience.
