Term 2 week 1 – dates

5 May 22

Kia ora koutou

I have been visiting classes this morning and really enjoyed the wide range of reading and maths being taught in classes.  The school is very settled and children are focussed on learning, which is our core business.  Already this week, children have visited my office sharing work that they are particularly proud of.  This is the best part of my job.

Contents

  • 13th May – Friday next week (Wk2) – TEACHER ONLY DAY – no students at school
  • 25th May – Wednesday (Wk4) – Y4 to Y6 WINTER SPORTS DAY – Kensington Park
  • RATS at school?

TEACHER ONLY DAY

My last newsletter for Term 1 advertised the above date, so that parents/caregivers can prepare for students not at school on this day.  We know this can be inconvenient for parents, but I can assure you that the children will gain many educational benefits from our staff working together.

Format for the day…

  • Teachers/teacher aides meet for light breakfast at a cafe for team building – we do not get many opportunities to have our teachers and teacher aides working together on professional development
  • 9:30 At School finalising the annual plan – actions and measures for initiatives within our strategic plan
  • 11am Learning Support Co-ordinator/RTLB resource teacher learning and behaviour sharing targeted resources for classes in response to student data/needs
  • 12ish Literacy Expectations finalised – matching curriculum levels in writing to last years intensive professional development work with ‘Write that Essay – now called Writers Toolbox’ – this will allow a school wide approach to be consistent and sustained over time
  • Afternoon session – practical session planning sentence style lesson sentence (trains) sequences at class levels

Y4 to Y6 WINTER SPORTS DAY

At last an inter-school event for our senior students!!!!  We have just received the date for this event.  Getting our children to this event is seen as highly important in the context of many cancelled events over the last 2 years.  PLEASE HELP US MAKE IT HAPPEN.   The only way we can send teams is with PARENT volunteer support to take responsibility for a team on the day.

How it works:

The senior class teachers ask the children for their preference of sport on the day.  We often say try something new for those who play plenty of their favourite sport during the year.  They may get their 2nd choice depending on team numbers.  The students travel by bus to the event.  Parents meet at school for the organisation briefing, team lists, medical and safety processes and then travel by car to the event.  Parents supervise teams with the teachers normally roving to monitor and support parents.  At times a parent may be asked to umpire a game.  Without parents we will not be able to attend.

Anna Keogh will put out the organisational letters once teams are organised.

RAT’S at school

No not those RATs.  We have single Rapid Antigen Tests at school.  If your child is sick and you need a (free) RAT test for your child, please ask at the office for a couple of tests.  This is at the discretion of parents and not a school policy.  We are not testing children.

Kind regards

Terry
