Otaika Valley lockdown day 2

19 August 2021

Kia ora koutou,

Yesterday staff met at 9am to roll out the home learning plans and sort their own lives.  Some staff members had young family members stuck away from home.  We hope everything has worked out for our families.

THE PLAN…

  • We have split the school into two syndicates R1 to 4 and R5 to 7
  • Each syndicate has met to plan their focus for home learning tasks
  • Each syndicate has or will send out an email to their class parents explaining how things work – you should receive this after our 9am meeting this morning (if not already)
  • The main form of communication for explanations will come through as emails

  • SEESAW will be used as the online tool
    • Parents have their own sign in which allows you to comment on their work if you wish to
    • Parents will be sent the student codes so that students can log on with their code, not parent codes
  • The website news letter will be used for whole school communication – this also goes to your email
    • it is important to have up-to-date contacts
    • please email Jen at admin@otaika.school.nz if your email needs updating or if you wish to add another contact e.g mum and dad etc

WELL-BEING

  • If you find yourself struggling with mental health
    • don’t watch the news all day
    • listen to music not the radio – repeating covid messages don’t help
    • if you listen to the bad news all day it can become consuming
    • exercise
    • the 3 main causes of high blood pressure (stress/worry) are
      • lack of exercise
      • alcohol
      • diet

Look after yourselves so you can look after your children. This is the message for our staff and is going to be our priority this time around.

Kind regards

Terry
